The first written mention of Úžice dates from 1405, and the name means “village of the people of Úž”. The primary and nursery school is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building dating from 1891 to 1894, which is a protected cultural monument. The Dřínovská stráň nature reserve lies on the southern slope of Dřínovský vrch within the municipality and protects dry slopes. The municipality also includes Netřeba, with the protected salt marshes Netřebské slaniska, and Kopeč, which has the Kopeč nature reserve. The former Úžice sugar factory operated from 1856 to 1999, and several businesses, including the Hanseatic logistics group, are now based on its site. Resort Svět, with a guesthouse and restaurant, stands in Zelené údolí in Úžice, behind the former sugar factory and about 2 km from exit 9 of the D8 motorway.
