Býkev lies about 5 km west of Mělník and consists of the parts Býkev and Jenišovice. The municipality's first written record dates to 1392. The municipal office is housed in a former village school building dating from around 1910, renovated in 2013. Beyond the I/16 road, outside the main part of Býkev, there is an industrial zone with halls for small-scale manufacturing and storage.

Býkev's landmark is the Czech Lion monument, dating from 1918–1920. During the Second World War, local residents hid it by burying it underground. In Jenišovice, a chateau and the Chapel of St Mary stand on the village green. Count Kustoš had the chapel built in 1890.
